Wesley Fofana’s return date revealed – What does it mean for Chelsea?

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has released an update regarding his players injury as The Blues are having mixed news about it. It is revealed that the club are expecting Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella to return following injury.

In the club’s latest press conference, Pochettino stated that the team will continue to assess the situation of these players. The Argentinian gaffer also has bad news as one of his players is having an extended injury treatment and another injury setback.

One player that has to wait longer to return is Wesley Fofana. The French center half had been undergoing surgery for his torn ligament injury since the summer. The date of his return is yet to be decided. Pochettino added that he himself was unsure about the returning date of the player.

“We need to assess Thiago and Marc,” said Pochettino. “We still need to decide, but maybe it is possible for both of them to be ready to be involved in the squad tomorrow. It is two bits of good news, if they will be available to be in the squad.”

“Unfortunately I think it is difficult to see Wes playing this season, but you never know.”

Silva’s return to the squad is a major boost for Chelsea. The Brazilian has the most clearances than any other player in the squad with 105 times. More than Axel Disasi (81) and Leci Colwill (58).

Fofana suffered a ruptured crucial ligament injury during the club’s pre-season period and has been sidelined since then. He missed the America tour and spent most of the summer alongside the club’s medical specialist. For Chelsea. It was a disadvantage for The Blues as they needed as many players to compete in the league after a disastrous season.

During last season’s campaign, the Saint-Etienne graduate appeared in 20 games since coming from Leicester City, scoring one goal each for the Champions League and Premier League for the London-based club.

How this will affect Chelsea?

With Fofana extending his out-of-the-pitch stay, Chelsea are racing with time to get as many of his players to be fit. The club’s medical team also have another customer incoming as Chrstopher Nkunku suffered an injury setback during the League Cup final last week.

This is Nkunku’s fourth injury this season as the French has just returned from a hip injury in January. He has missed 28 games in total for Chelsea across the competitions. Nkunku has a problem in his hamstring and the club will continue to see his condition as he is expected to return soon as Pochettino admitted that the player is having a recovery.
