“I need to speak” – Roberto De Zerbi hints at departing Brighton at the end of the season
Roberto De Zerbi is the current Brighton manager and will still be until the end of the season if nothing intervenes with his contract which will expire in 2026. The Italian tactician clarified rumours about his future with The Seagulls amid reports suggesting he is heading to Anfield next season.
De Zerbi is one of the names who has been linked to a move to Liverpool next season. His reputation of building Brighton as giants killers last season made people equate him with Klopp.
Roberto De Zerbi: “I want to keep my ambition”
Speaking to the media, De Zerbi admitted that he is not in talks with Brighton regarding a contract extension. Instead, he is pushing for something else.
“Signing a new deal at Brighton? At the moment, no,” De Zerbi said via Liverpool Echo. “I need to speak to Tony Bloom about the plan for the club in order to decide my future, I want to know what is the project. I want to keep my ambition”.
De Zerbi emphasised that the main issue for him is not about the contract. He highlighted that knwoing the club’s ambitions would be crucial in his decision to either stay or leave the club at the end of the season.
“I have a different way to decide my future,” he said. ”I want to speak with my club, I have a contract but the problem is not the contract – the problem is to find the same plan, the same target, the same vision for the future.
“For me, I have not decided yet what is my future, because I have the contract, but anyway I want to speak with Tony (Bloom), my club, to understand their plan, to understand his plan, the Tony plan. Then we take the decision together, without problems.”
