WATCH: Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane produces ‘miss of the year’ after failing to convert from six yards against Dortmund
Bayern Munich and Harry Kane’s hopes of winning the Bundesliga are all but over after they had a torrid day in a one-sided title race. While it was a 2-1 come-from-behind win for Bayer, all was not well for the Bavarians after they stumbled to a 2-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Der Klassiker. The torrid day was summed up by the number of missed chances for Bayern, but one in particular stood out was Harry Kane’s 22nd-minute miss which would qualify for the Puskas award, had there been one for the miss of the year.
Harry Kane misses from six yards
Only declared fit to play in the Der Klassiker on Friday (Mar 29), Kane was looking for his 32nd goal of the season when Bayern went down 1-0 in the 10th minute through Dortmund man Karim Adeyemi. In search of an equalizer, Harry Kane had an easy chance when a cross was delivered in the 22nd minute from the right in the six-yard box. Kane, with no one marking him in the penalty area and onside, failed to judge the flight of the ball and headed it wide with only the goalkeeper standing in front of him.
The miss left everyone shell-shocked considering Kane has a good eye for the goal and is a prolific goal scorer. However, the miss had too harsh consequences with Bayern getting very few opportunities to score an equalizer. In the end, they paid the price for the miss after Julian Ryerson scored made the score 2-0 and sealed a famous win for Dortmund in the 83rd minute.
What is the Bundesliga title picture?
As things stand, after 27 matches Bayern Munich have 60 points from 27 matches which will see them reach a maximum of 81 points even if they win their remaining seven matches. This will mean, 82 points are good enough for Bayer Leverkusen to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history. As things stand, they need nine more points from seven matches to win the Bundesliga title as they have 73 points from 27 matches.
Bayer came from 0-1 down in the 87th minute to win 2-1 against Hoffenheim earlier on Saturday. As things stand, if results go Bayer’s way they will be champions of Germany in the next two weeks. They also have a unique opportunity to win the treble of DFB Pokal, Bundesliga and the Europa League.
