Reports: Neymar turned up drunk at PSG training and had a breakdown of relations with Kylian Mbappe
Neymar turned up drunk?
In a stunning revelation, former PSG star Neymar apparently turned up drunk to some of their training sessions during his final months at the club, while he also set to have lost respect of his then teammate, Kylian Mbappe.
French publication L’Equipe spoke to some of PSG’s former players and staff members, who revealed that Neymar showed up drunk for training sessions towards the end of his six-year spell with the Ligue 1 giants.
It was further reported that the Brazilian was also involved in a training ground bust-up between Lionel Messi, Achraf Hakimi and Sergio Ramos during Christophe Galtier’s reign. He also reportedly lashed out at young player Ismael Gharbi and lost respect of Mbappe.
If true, these incidents reflect on Neymar’s tumultuous time at PSG, where he also suffered multiple bouts of injuries, missing a staggering amount of games. The 32-year-old finally put an end to his struggles last summer when he left the club to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal on a €90 million transfer.
Despite impressive numbers, Neymar’s PSG legacy contentious
In 173 appearances, Neymar racked up 118 goals and registered a further 77 assists for PSG. These are impressive numbers by all accounts, but the Brazilian’s legacy would still be contentious, given his history of injuries and inability to guide the side to a Champions League title. Signed for a world-record fee of €222 million from Barcelona in 2017, Neymar was expected to guide the French giants to great heights, especially in Europe, but repeated injuries and his glamorous lifestyle prevented the star from reaching his full potential. Infact, his move to Saudi Arabia, at 32, is widely seen as a step down in his career.
