Reece James Red Card: Chelsea captain opens up on “frustrating” incident
Chelsea full-back Reece James has revealed why the red card against Brighton was tough for him to take. James was sent off during his team’s 2-1 win against the Seagulls. The right-back was sent off for his off the ball kickout on Pedro.
He was given a straight red after VAR review and has been suspended for four matches, meaning James will miss the opening games of next season as well. James had come on as a substitute shortly before the incident. He has now revealed why it’s frustrating for him, writing on his program notes (via Chelsea Dodgers):
“I’ve been working so hard to return to the pitch and I wanted to make sure I came back in good shape when I did, so I could help the team straight away. That made the red card at the end of Wednesday night’s game at Brighton even more frustrating for me.”
James, 24, has missed 38 games this season through two different injuries. Right after coming back from his injury, James has now suffered yet another setback.
Reece James Red Card: Why has Chelsea’s Reece James been given a four-match ban?
Reece James was sent off for violent conduct against Brighton. Hence, he is automatically set to miss three games. James was also sent off against Newcastle in November. As it was his second red card of the season, he has been suspended for an extra match.
James is important for Chelsea. He has been sidelined with injury issues recently. Hence, the suspension is another significant blow for the 24-year-old.
