Olivier Giroud Hints Antoine Griezmann Could Join Him in MLS
In a playful suggestion, Olivier Giroud has said that Antoine Griezmann might soon join him in Major League Soccer.
Giroud, who moved to the USA to extend his career, confirmed his retirement from international football following the exit of France from Euro 2024. He will no longer be playing alongside Griezmann for the French national team.
After having signed a contract with Los Angeles FC through the end of 2025, Giroud expressed his belief that Griezmann would eventually make the move to MLS. Griezmann has frequently hinted at his interest in playing in North America before retiring, with Los Angeles being a potential destination.
Speaking about the same, Giroud stated, “When he saw the news that I signed for LAFC, he was a bit jealous. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, we will meet each other hopefully soon.’ I don’t know where we are with the club, but I messaged him straight away when I saw he was linked with the club and he told me ‘Let’s see.’ I know he loves the US. Basketball, baseball, soccer. One day or another he will come here,”
Griezmann has been left out of Atletico Madrid’s last two pre-season matches in Hong Kong and Sweden as the club aims to gradually reintegrate him after his extended summer break. Although he is under contract with Madrid until 2026, a move could be possible next summer if his form declines.
