Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon matches Jamie Vardy to achieve unique PL record
Newcastle United did not spend £45m for nothing when signing Anthony Gordon from Everton in January 2023. It was the club’s second biggest cash ever purchased in history and the good thing is the 23-year-old winger has lived up to the expectations so far.
Gordon has been an integral part of Newcastle’s attacking unit and recorded a unique milestone in the game against Tottenham Hotspur. The Scouser found the back of the net 32 minutes after kickoff.

The Everton academy graduate dribbled past Spurs’ Micky van de Ven before blasting the ball into Guglielmo Vicario’s net. Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Gordon admitted that he was happy to score in front of The Toon Army. He also added that his goal was crucial to decide where the game was heading.
“I think especially here at St James’ with the crowd, if we can score back to back, quite close then it can feel like the stadium is suffocating you,” Gordon said. “Trust me, I have been here as an away player and it definitely feels like that. It came at a vital time and from there I felt like we controlled the game.”
That goal made him the second player to score against the ‘Big Six’ teams in the same season. Gordon has scored against Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United with one goal each. The last time a player managed to do such a record was Jamie Vardy in the 2017/18 season.
