Manchester United identify Atalanta star as an option to Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United’s pursuit of Manuel Ugarte has unfortunately been unable to advance to the final stages. It is no secret that Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder and has been pushing for a move in recent months. However, United bosses are also keeping their options open in case a deal cannot be reached in the coming days for Ugarte.
Brazilian midfielder, Ederson has emerged as an interesting alternative for the Mancunian club. The 25-year-old operates at the heart of the midfield for Italian club, Atalanta and has earned great plaudits for his performances over the last three seasons. Ederson delivered an impressive showing against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final recently. The Atalanta star is an ideal solution for Ten Hag in midfield due to his ability to read the game well and make progressive plays.

Manuel Ugarte‘s signing was always going to be a complicated one for Manchester United. Currently, the club has not lost hope, but is understandably also keeping tabs on Ederson. An issue, though, arises due to the fact that Atalanta demands a fee in the region of €60 million, which is close to what the English side is unwilling to pay for Manuel Ugarte. It will surely be an interesting course of events in the final days of the market for the three-time European champions.
Manchester United to face competition in pursuit of Ederson
Ederson’s profile was sure to attract interest from a plethora of clubs and that has been the case. According to the Spanish outlet, Diario AS, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa are also alert to the situation of the Atalanta player. United’s biggest rivals, Liverpool have also registered an admiration in the Brazilian over the summer.
With all scenarios considered, it is not a stretch to imagine Ederson staying at Atalanta for the 2024/25 season at least. The clubs in the race for him are undoubtedly a reason for him to consider his future, but he will be aware that his best shot at regular game time lies in Italy. Nevertheless, it will be a difficult task for him to reject Manchester United, if the club does indeed decide to move forward in a probable deal.
