Manchester United keen on securing PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United have had a busy transfer window after bolstering their defence and attack with new incomings. Now, they are focusing on adding new names in the midfield to meet Erik Ten Hag’s demand, with Manual Ugarte and Sander Berge having emerged as two key candidates for the time being.
As per Fabrizio Romano‘s recent update, Manul Ugarte’s representative Jorge Mendes has arrived in England to materialise the Uruguayan International’s potential move to Old Trafford. Earlier, the player had agreed on personal terms with the Premier League but United are persistently negotiating to bring down the reported £51.4m asking price to fit in their budget to complete the deal.
Manchester United scanning Sander Berge as a backup midfield option
The Premier League club is facing difficulties in bringing Manual Ugarte to Manchester due to PSG not allowing their South American midfielder to go cheaply this summer as he is under contract until 2028. The ongoing disagreements over the final transfer fee is eventually pushing the talks.
Therefore, Erik Ten Hag’s scouting team is also keeping tabs on Burnley’s Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge as a cheaper back-up option in the market. Reportedly, United are currently in talks with the EFL Championship club for Berge, who is also bonded by a long-term contract with the Clarets until 2027.
The 26-year-old might not be the popular choice among the Red Devils supporters over Manual Ugarte, however, he is still a decent option to be tasked with number six duty in the United midfield.
The Norway international could only cost £30 million to IENOS management and bring in physicality excellent passing abilities and off-the-ball movements as a defensive midfielder making him a key figure for Burnley. Thus, he can potentially solve the midfield problems at Old Trafford.
