Man Utd closing in on Manuel Ugarte transfer

Manchester United are said to be close to finalizing a deal for Manuel Ugarte from PSG. The clubs have been locked in negotiations for a while but it now seems like the deadlock has been broken. A conclusion seems to have been reached for a loan deal with a €60 million obligation to buy.

United have been pursuing Ugarte for basically the entire summer, but till now had not matched PSG’s demands. Now however, it seems like a common ground has been reached. With less than 10 days remaining of the window, this deal is now expected to go through.

Ugarte is a tough tackling defensive midfielder, who rose to prominence in Sporting Club at Portugal. He was signed by PSG in July last year and has a contract at the Parc de Princes till June 2028. However, Luis Enrique does not seem to have much faith in him.

Manchester United clearly need a defensive midfielder as Casemiro’s physical decline is evident for anyone to see. In Ugarte, they believe they are signing a young, ball winning midfielder, who can play a complimentary role to Kobbie Mainoo in the double pivot, and free him to move up the field when needed.

PSG on the other hand needed some exits in midfield after having created a large list of midfielders all of whom are on the younger side. Ugarte and Carlos Soler are on the exit ramp, but PSG still have Fabian Ruiz, Vitinha, Joao Neves, Warren Zaire Emery, Kang in Lee, Gabriel Moscardo and Desire Doue.
