Facundo Pellistri leaves Manchester United to sign for Greek club
Pellistri has featured in only 25 games for the Red Devils.
With almost all transfer arrivals completed (except a few), Erik ten Hag is now looking to consolidate his squad, so we might see some departures in the last few days of the summer transfer window of 2024. Players not regularly put to use, like Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri are moving out.
Facundo Pellistri has officially joined Panathinaikos FC for a fee of 5.1 million Euros. The deal has been formally announced and the 22-year-old Uruguayan winger is set to join the Diego Alonso coached Greek club soon.
Interestingly, Alonso was a coach of the Uruguay men’s senior team from 2021 till last year and has given Pellistri his national team debut against Paraguay during his reign. He is expected to be the key player of the Greek side for the upcoming season, as he can be an ideal option for them, contributing from both wings.
Facundo Pellistri joined Manchester United in 2020, after an impressive spell with Uruguayan side Club Atletico Penarol. The player, however, had to wait long for his debut with the EPL giants, playing his first-ever game for United in the 2022-23 season, in a Carabao Cup quarter-final game against Charlton Athletic.
Pellistri has featured in only 25 games for the Red Devils, providing two assists. During his contract with the club his 2020, he was loaned multiple times to Spanish clubs Deportivo Alaves and Granada CF. His last game for Man Utd was the Community Shield match against derby rivals Manchester City, where he came in as a substitute. Manchester United has thanked the player for his efforts and wished him the best.
