Man United’s Pursuit of Nice Defender Jean-Clair Todibo Halted by UEFA

Amongst the various Man United transfer news doing the rounds, the one that clearly has made the fans anxious is whether United would be able to get a deal through the door for Ligue 1’s Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo or not. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a potential move for the player in recent times.

However, as it has turned out, Man United have suffered a roadblock in their pursuit of France international center-back Jean-Clair Todibo. As per a report from ‘The Telegraph’, United’s aim of signing Todibo from Nice has been ‘blocked’ by UEFA. This comes after UEFA’s rule of not permitting clubs with the same ownership to be within the parameters of the same league/competition (as laid out by BBC).

INEOS, who also has a part/stake ownership of Man United, also happens to have a say and control over the football-related operations of Ligue 1 club Nice.

If this rule of UEFA remains at its core, it will be a huge blow to the Premier League club in their wish to sign the highly-rated and talented center-back. Especially after defenders like – Raphael Varane (set to depart the club), and Harry Maguire whose future at the club is still uncertain have raised doubts over Erik ten Hag’s side’s defensive options in the 2024-25 season.

With West Ham agreeing a deal for Wolves’s Max Kilman, who was reportedly on the shortlist of the Old-Trafford-based club as well, it seems like the Red Devils are currently finding it tough in the transfer market. Jean-Clair Todibo made 30 appearances for Nice in the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season.
