Leicester City struggling to find a solution for out-of-contract Wilfred Ndidi’s situation
Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is currently out of contract at Premier League club Leicester City. His previous contract with the club expired on July 1, 2024. Reports from ‘CaughtoffSide’, directed that the player has rejected a new contract at the Foxes. Also, clubs like – Aston Villa, Everton, Galatasaray, and Marseille have been linked with the player.
But as it stands, the Midlands-based club hasn’t reported to be close enough to get a transfer over the line for Ndidi. The situation keeps dragging on for Leicester, who would need to be careful about their wage bills, come the 2024-25 season, especially after coming under scrutiny for potential points deduction amidst alleged accusations of breaching the Premier League’s PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules).
As per a report from ‘Leicester Mercury‘, the feelings among the Foxes fans regarding Wilfred Ndidi’s current situation at the club are quite sour. A QNA session hosted by them witnessed a noteworthy answer from one of the supporters of the club.
When asked if there is a chance of the Nigerian player staying at the Foxes, the supporter answered – “I do think that there’s a chance that Ndidi stays, yes. But the longer it goes without him signing, the more uncertain it is, I would say”. Further sighting on the need of the club to move ahead and bolster the midfield area, the supporter asserted – “If it (decision regarding Wilfred Ndidi’s future) doesn’t happen in the next two weeks, my guess would be that it won’t happen”.
Wilfred Ndidi has played the most number of matches in his club career for Leicester City so far. He had a productive 2023-24 EFL Championship season for the Foxes. In his 32 appearances for the club, he registered five assists and also scored four goals.
