Manchester United manager could get sacked despite FA Cup triumph
The Dutch manager responded in the best way possible to his critics by winning the 2024 FA Cup and defeating Premier League winners Manchester City. Erik ten Hag has become the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win trophies in back-to-back campaigns.
Despite winning the second-highest honour in English football, Ten Hag still faces uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford. INEOS led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have the final say on the managerial decision and are reportedly conducting an internal review with no decisions taken so far.
Erik Ten Hag comments on speculation surrounding his future
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has addressed rumours about his future at Old Trafford after securing the FA Cup title on Saturday afternoon. The hard-pressed manager made a convincing case to continue the helm at Manchester United as he delivered his second trophy of his turbulent two-year spell.
Last season, the former Ajax boss won the Carabao Cup and lost the FA Cup final to Pep Guardiola’s men. United finished eighth in the Premier League this campaign and the FA Cup final was their last chance to secure a spot in the European competitions.
Erik ten Hag is not worried about the sack and claims he could ‘go anywhere else to win trophies.’
“I don’t think about this,” the United manager said. “I’m in a project and we are exactly where we want to be. We’re constructing a team.
“When I took over it was a mess at United and we are on our way to construct a team for the future, and that will go with ups and downs.
“There is still a lot of work to do but we have a value in the squad, we have high potentials who are progressing very good.
“Two trophies in two years, it’s not bad. Three finals is not bad. But we have to keep going. If they don’t want me any more, then I go anywhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career.”
The manager is aware of the mistakes that have been made but has pointed to United’s injury crisis for their inconsistency this season. Ten Hag is determined that United are heading in the right direction under his tutelage.
