Luis Diaz still hopes to follow his Colombian predecessors to play in La Liga

With Luis Diaz still struggling to replicate his dazzling pre-injury performance with Liverpool, the Colombian star is looking for a way out of England. The rumour was spread by his own father while speaking to a Spain-based radio network Cadena SER.

Diaz’s father highlighted that moving to Spain has been a dream of their family, since the time when the Liverpool number seven was still playing for Porto. It is not without a reason why LaLiga is a dream move. Diaz senior wants his son to follow the footstep of the two former Colombian national team players Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez.

LaLiga has been a dream destination for Luis Diaz

Both Falcao and James moved to Spain after playing for Porto. Falcao was at his peak while playing for Atletico Madrid while James played for another Madrid-based team, Real Madrid. 

“When he left Porto I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs,” Mane Diaz said. “I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else. With Liverpool everything was more precise.

“The directive was more precise for Luis to arrive there. It was hoped that he could come here [to Spain]. Radamel Falaco had already been there, James Rodriguez too… In the end it didn’t happen, but don’t give up hope yet. He is playing and the clubs are active.”

Diaz was expected to fill the boots of Sadio Mane who left for Bayern Munich at the end of 2021/22 season. He has scored 22 goals for The Reds in 86 appearances, winning two Carling Cups, an FA Cup, and one Community Shield in the process. 

Jurgen Klopp still believes in Luis Diaz

Regarding Diaz’s inconsistency since returning from injury, head coach Jurgen Klopp believes that his player could reach his best form again. Earlier in January, the German was happy with the development Diaz had shown on the pitch. 

“It’s just about trust and faith and time,” Klopp said via This is Anfield. “There was no doubt about [it], that he will be back, definitely. Yes, that for us is very important, absolutely, but that’s how it is.

“He’s back, that’s good and pretty helpful. You can see it in each training session, it’s different.We discussed it but it never really had that massive impact. So, in these times, we let them just be. If Lucho is not playing great I don’t have to tell him ‘By the way, Lucho that was not great’. He knows that before I know it.”

Liverpol will play against Brighton after the international break this weekend and Diaz has also returned to Merseyside to join his teammates.
