Hansi Flick interested in potential move to replace Xavi at Barcelona
Despite winning the La Liga title in his debut season as manager, Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez announced his resignation to a lot of shock earlier this year. The 44-year-old has reportedly been under the cosh for the team’s struggles this season but at the same time, reports indicated that the club still had faith in Xavi. However, despite that, Xavi opted to resign from his post at the end of the season although many believe that he might opt to stay.
Reports have indicated the same with president Joan Laporta reportedly confident that Xavi will remain at the club but despite that, the club is looking at potential options. That includes Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta as well as free agents like Hansi Flick. The German is reportedly the top choice and is also keen on the move, as per recent reports.
Hansi Flick doing his research on Barcelona
According to Catalunya Radio, the former Bayern Munich boss is currently conducting research on the La Liga giants and is reportedly very keen on a move to the club. The report has revealed that the German coach has made inquiries into the workings of the club, the personnel, and more. This comes mere weeks after reports had indicated that Barcelona had touched base with Flick over a move.
The La Liga side are looking for a new manager to take over when Xavi leaves and they believe Flick, a treble winner with Bayern Munich, might be the right choice. Furthermore, Catalunya Radio reported that the former German national team coach also had a meeting with Pep Guardiola. The 59-year-old reportedly wanted more information on Barcelona and even had a five-hour meal with Domenec Torrent.
The Manchester City coach has been with Guardiola since his time at Barcelona and traveled with the Spaniard to Bayern Munich and now Manchester City as an assistant coach. It has only intensified the reports of a potential move for Flick as Barcelona reportedly consider him to be the front-runner.
