Breaking: Toni Kroos stays for another year with Real Madrid

German international Toni Kroos has reportedly extended his contract with Real Madrid for one more season. His initial deal would expire by the end of this June but the club has planned to have another season with Kroos. 

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said on X, previously known as Twitter, that Kroos will just have to sign the agreement letter. The midfielder is still in Germany for international matches, helping his country win both over France and Netherlands. 

“Toni Kroos will stay and continue at Real Madrid as new one year deal until 2025 is set to be agreed!” Romano said. “Direct talks between Kroos and Real on contract and it’s now just a formality to sign, imminent. Super season again for Kroos at Real and also with Germany now.”

Toni Kroos is happy with people’s reaction on him

When asked about his future last month, Toni Kroos casually answered that he was happy about people expecting him to stay longer in Madrid. Speaking to Diario, he appreciated the fact that his presence in the Spanish capital was expected.

“I always tell the truth, and I just don’t know,” Kroos told Diario. “I’m thinking about what to do, but I haven’t decided anything. I’m glad that a lot of people want me to play one more year, that’s positive, rather than the other way around (laughs). I haven’t made the decision.”

Gaining compliment from the manager

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti had decided to leave the transfer decision to Toni Kross. The Italian gaffer praised the quality Kroos has shown for the club so far and would support any decision the player takes in the future. 

“His passing percentage is the same as it was ten years ago; his quality hasn’t changed,” Ancelotti admitted. “He is playing in a team with a lot of energy and his quality in terms of the tempo of the game stands out more for that reason. He is playing very well.

“Whatever he decides, we have to respect it. A player, I think, must leave when they are at the top. This year he can be up there, or next year, I don’t know, because his performances have always been good. He has never had highs or lows. But everyone must stop, as a coach too, at the top of their career.”

Kroos has been in Los Blancos since 2014. The discussion is no longer about what he has won but how many. For the past decade, the Greifswald-born has won everything with Madrid including four Champions League, three LaLiga titles, and five UEFA Super Cup.
