Former Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri announced retirement from international football
Former Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri has announced his retirement from international football. Shaqiri’s decision comes after Switzerland’s elimination from the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. The attacking midfielder, who played for Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and other top clubs during his career, had a notable international career.
Since making his international debut in 2010, Shaqiri made 125 appearances for the Swiss national team, scoring 32 goals and providing 34 assists. He even scored once during the recently concluded Euro 2024, during Switzerland’s 1-1 group draw against Scotland.
Shaqiri is the only player to score in last three FIFA World Cups and Euros. Known for his skillful and powerful left-foot, Shaqiri was a very effective player in his heyday.

Shaqiri has played for clubs like FC Basel, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Olympique Lyon, Stoke City, and more during his career. He currently plays for the MLS club Chicago Fire.
Shaqiri made 53 appearances for Liverpool, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. He played 81 games for Bayern Munich, scoring 17 goals and providing 19 assists. Shaqiri won the Premier League, three Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Champions Leagues, two FIFA Club Wprld Cup trophies, among other titles in his club career.
