Levi Colwill: Life, Career, Stats and Net Worth

Levi Colwill is a defender currently representing Chelsea and England. The youngster played at City Central alongside Jamal Musiala at a tender age before joining the U-9 side of the Chelsea academy. Colwill was raised on the south coast of England and adapted quickly to become an agile defender. After signing with Chelsea, Colwill had loan spells at Huddersfield and Brighton. He made his debut for Huddersfield Town where he moved out on loan followed by another one at Brighton, which later was sufficient to bring him back to Chelsea.

Early life of Levi Colwill

The English footballer was born February 26th, 2003 to Levi Colwill Samuel Sr (Father), and Deborah Colwill Samuel( Mother) in Southampton, England. He was the first child and has a younger brother Jayvon. Coming from a family of rich heritage, Colwill was introduced to football at a very tender age. As a young boy, he was influenced by his parents and uncles, who were professional footballers. One memorable story for Colwill was walking out of the 2014 FA Vase Cup as a mascot for Sholing when his uncles Barry and Bryan Mason played. Moreover, another uncle also plays for Sholing and works for Southampton.

Having spent most of his growing years at Southampton, most of his years growing up was occupied with taking care of his brother. If noticed there would be a significant age gap between the two. The athlete first touched the ball while playing with his dad at 4. Levis Samuels and his son would play outside their family home. Being born on the 26th, he also chose the number for his jersey at Huddersfield. “Everyone says I wore the number because of John Terry, but it’s because of the date of my birthday,” said the youngster.

Chelsea ( Academy days)

After playing with Sunday League side City Central, Colwill joined Chelsea and signed his first professional contract at the age of 17, in February 2020. He was part of the batch that included Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Tariq Lamptey, and also Chelsea captain Reece James, who all graduated from the Academy. Once he graduated in 2021/22, several clubs offered loans for the youngster.

Knowing the high potential of the teenager, there were multiple pitches to the loan technical officer, Carlo Cudicini at Chelsea. Ultimately, Huddersfield won the interest through their structure and focussed on developing the player.

On May 2022, he scored an own goal in the 1–0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final.

Brighton

On 3 August 2022, Colwill signed a loan deal with Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. In just two days, he debuted against Manchester United, replacing Solly March in a 2–1 victory. This earned him his first start, which ended in a 2–1 defeat against Aston Villa at the Amex. He finished the campaign with 12 league starts as Brighton qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history. As per reports, Chelsea rejected a £30 million bid from Brighton for Colwill. He later praised Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi for his game time and providing a room to improve.

The Chelsea return

Colwill returned and signed a six-year-long deal with Chelsea on August 2023, which even included an option for an extra year. His official debut for the Blues came on August 13, where he played all 90 minutes in a 1–1 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League. A few months later, he netted his first goal for the club in a 3–2 victory over Brighton. Three days later, he captained the side in a 2–1 away defeat to Manchester United.
