Bayern Munich vs Dinamo Zagreb Player Ratings as Kane scores 4 in 9-2 win

The UEFA Champions League returned in a new format but it was the same old Bayern Munich as they put Dinamo Zagreb to the sword, winning by a 9-2 margin at the Allianz Arena in their very first game itself.

The dominance began early when Serge Gnabry had a goal chalked off for offside. But Harry Kane soon opened the scoring from the spot. Raphael Guerrero and Michael Olise then scored in 4 minutes for Bayern to carry a 3-0 advantage into the break.

Dinamo came out all guns swinging quickly scoring twice after the break. But Bayern picked up again. Kane scored three in the second half itself, two of which were from the spot, and had one ruled out as well. Olise too added another and Leroy Sane came on to add a late eighth. Leon Gortezka too joined the act. Bayern had an xG of above 6.0.

Goalkeeper

M. Neuer — 6/10. Had zero saves to make in the first half. Went off injured at halftime. Completed all his passes including 6 out of 6 attempted long balls.

Defenders

J. Kimmich — 8/10. Played a big role in the domination by Bayern. Created 4 chances including 1 big chance from RB. Assisted Olise’s first and Gortezka’s.

D. Upamecano — 7/10. Barely had any defensive work to do. Only misplaced 2 passes all game. Probably should have scored from a corner.

K. Min-Jae — 6/10. Bayern’s weakest performer of the night. Solid in possession as usual but should have done way better, especially for the goals that Bayern conceded.

A. Davies – 7/10. Was a nuisance down the left for the Croatians. Won a penalty which was converted by Kane. Beaten once too often in defence though.

Midfielders

A. Pavlovic — 6/10. A mixed performance for the young midfielder. Got beaten a little too frequently but in possession he was elite. Also won a penalty.

R. Guerrero — 7/10. A solid performance in what isn’t his best position. Controlled the game well and contributed to the attack. Scored a goal as well.

M. Olise — 8/10. An excellent outing on his Champions League debut. This is a player made for the big nights. Scored a brace to signal his arrival.

J. Musiala – 9/10. Another outrageous performance from the German. Created a match-high 7 chances including 3 big ones. Assisted Olise and Guerrero’s goals.

S. Gnabry — 7/10. Had a goal ruled out for offside. Only one in the Bayern frontline to not register a goal contribution. Looked sharp nevertheless.

Forward

H. Kane — 10/10. Consecutive hattricks. He is now the top scorer in the Champions League among English. He scored 4 times, including 3 from the penalty spot.

Substitutions

S. Ulreich – 6/10. Conceded twice. Should have done better after coming on for Neuer.

E. Dier – 6/10. Kept things simple with half an hour on the clock.

T. Muller – 7/10. Came on late, and created a couple of chances. Got an assist from one of the chances too.

Leroy Sane – 7/10, came on the score the 8th goal.

L. Gortezka – 7/10. Came on to score the 9th.

Manager

Vincent Kompany – 7/10. Bayern are starting to fire under him now. They look like they are back as they mean to continue. Interesting times await.

Dinamo Zagreb Player Ratings vs Bayern Munich

Goalkeeper

I. Nevistic – 7/10. Would be disingenuous to not give him a good rating. Made 10 saves despite conceding 9 times. A brave performance which will be noticed.

Defenders

K. Theophile-Catherine – 4/10. A clueless outing from the big centre half. Had no answer to what Bayern thought of him as roommate. His mistimed tackle gave away a penalty.

S. Mmaee – 5/10. Nothing particular to write about his performance. Wasn’t the greatest but was overshadowed by other players being worse. Didn’t play particularly well too.

T. Ogiwara – 6/10. The best player on the night probably for the away side. Did manage to score and threaten from his flank in phases.

R. Pierre-Gabriel – 5/10. Gave away one of the penalties for Kane to score. Decent enough in possession. Later taken off at the hour mark.

S. Ristovski – 4/10. The North Macedonian had a poor game. He was also booked for his troubles. Looked completely out of ideas against Bayern’s quality.

Midfielders

M. Rog – 5/10. Had a poor first half and was replaced at halftime. Didn’t do much on the ball while he played. Bayern just played around him.

J. Misic – 6/10. A mixed night for the midfielder personally. Assisted Ogiwara on one side of the pitch. Gave away a penalty on the other side.

M. Baturina – 5/10. The highly-rated youngster has a quiet game. Failed to impose himself on the game at all, like most of his teammates. Struggled to create anything of note.

Forwards

M. Pjaca – 6/10. Assisted the opening goal for Dinamo. Looked sharp and dangerous when he had the ball. Gave the Bayern defence some action to get into.

B. Petkovic – 7/10. Played to his strengths. Scored a goal and won a match-high 13 duels. His efforts were nowhere near enough in the end for his side.

Substitutions

L. Stojkovic – 5/10. Didn’t really have all that much to do after coming on as he saw very little of the ball.

S. Kulenovic – 5/10. The attacker touched the ball just 7 times in the half an hour he played.

A. Hoxha – 5/10. Same as the other two. Came on as an attacker when Bayern had all the momentum.

D. Spikic – 5/10. Didn’t have the time or opportunity to do anything of note.

A. Ademi – 5/10. Played for a few minutes but wasn’t particularly involved in the game.

Manager

Sergej Jakirovic– 4/10. Maybe he would still have lost terribly because of the quality difference but his substitutions were pretty bad.
