Kylian Mbappe responds in minutes following PSG manager Luis Enrique’s half-time rant against Real Sociedad
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Kylian Mbappe were all smiles following their 2-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Champions League. The Parisians rallied in the second half to secure a win at the Parc des Princes in the first leg of the round of 16.
However, things did not all go swimmingly for the hosts. Manager Luis Enrique was reportedly livid at his players for their poor display in the first half and gave them a piece of his mind in the dressing room.
PSG captain Marquinhos revealed his manager’s temperament during his post-game interview, adding the Spaniard demanded a change in tactics.
“He was very angry in the dressing room, and that’s good.
“It’s important for the team. He managed to motivate us to bring the ball out more from the back.”
Enrique’s half-time rant at his players seemed to have worked wonders. Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring just 13 minutes after the restart with a thumping finish from close-range. Bradley Barcola then scored in the 70th minute to make it 2-0 and give PSG some breathing space.
Real Sociedad made a decent start to the game but could not manage to create much with their 38% total possession. Despite getting into good positions later on, lack of accuracy cost them heavily. Sociedad attempted a respectable nine shot but none of those were on target. Five of those came in a first half where PSG were still trying to find their rhythm.
Seeing the visitors were on the brink of clicking, it is understandable manager Luis Enrique was livid. With the scores still level at 0-0 at the time, Sociedad could easily have grabbed the lead.
The Champions League is a tricky competition and no lead is safe until the final whistle is sounded by the referees. And who better than Luis Enrique to know a thing or two about comebacks, having guided Barcelona to an incredible comeback against PSG back in 2017.
