Liverpool Injury Update: Trent Alexander-Arnold set to miss Carabao Cup final against Chelsea
Liverpool have been dealt a massive blow just days ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Chelsea as Trent Alexander-Arnold has been ruled out. According to breaking news by Mail Sport, the defender has aggravated his knee injury and will miss the next five games.
Alexander-Arnold struggled with the issue for much of January and went off at half-time of their clash with Burnley on Saturday too, complaining of pain in his ligament. Now, he’s set for another spell on the sidelines.
Jurgen Klopp admits Trent Alexander-Arnold on way back but not yet. Although it’s not clear when he’d return, the Carabao Cup’s Wembley showpiece on 25 February might be too soon for him, thereby ruling him out. This only deepens Jurgen Klopp’s injury woes as the outgoing Liverpool manager is already beset with a few fitness concerns in his squad.
Joel Matip is confirmed to miss the final too, whereas Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcantara are doubtful. Mohamed Salah, though, has returned to training after picking up a hamstring problem while on international duty with Egypt at the 2023 African Cup of Nations. Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley will be gunning to start in the right-back spot in Alexander-Arnold’s absence.

After sitting out for three weeks, Alexander-Arnold made two substitute appearances against Norwich City and Chelsea as Klopp was reluctant to throw him at the deep end from the off. He then played the marauding full-back for an hour against Arsenal before starting again in their Burnley clash. But fears of an injury were invoked again when the 25-year-old was taken off at the break.
He could return for their league game with Manchester City on 10 March.
