Ferencvaros 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur: Player ratings as Spurs survive late scare to win second Europa League game in a row

Tottenham Hotspur saw off Ferencvaros in a narrow 2-1 win in the Europa League on Thursday. Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson both struck apiece for the Lilywhites before Bernabas Varga pulled one back for the hosts in the 90th minute in a consolation strike. Having also beaten Qarabag in their first match, Spurs made it six points from a possible six and consolidated their position to progress into the next round. Here are the player ratings for both teams:

Goalkeeper

Denes Dibusz – 7

The Ferencvaros custodian tried his best, but ultimately couldn’t stop Tottenham from scoring.

Defenders

Stefan Gartenmann – 7

With five clearances and three tackles, Gartenmann had a solid game for the Hungarian side in defense.

Ibrahim Cisse – 6.5

Good positioning, although he was caught for speed a few times.

Raul Gustavo – 7

He played a key role in relieving pressure from Ferencvaros’s defense with six clearances, while also making four tackles.

Cristian Ramirez – 7

Perfectly complimented his defensive cohorts with three clearances and two blocks, while also making his presence felt in attack with a handful of crosses.

Midfielders

Mohammad Abu Fani – 5

Industrious and willing, but Abu Fani struggled to win his duels and looked sloppy in possession too.

Habib Maiga – 6

He stepped up as his partner struggled and made three clearances as well as four tackles and two interceptions.

Forwards

Adama Malouda Traore – 6

Some excellent distribution and attacking intent with a handful of shots.

Matheus Saldanha – 6.5

He was key to regaining possession for his side as Saldanha posed a big threat to Tottenham off the ball.

Eldar Civic – 6

Civic made some crosses for their attackers to latch onto and laid one key pass too.

Barnabas Varga – 7.5

The Ferencvaros striker pulled a late consolation back for the hosts.

Substitutes

Kristoffer Zachariassen – 6.5

He looked to impede Tottenham’s movements by jumping into tackles but didn’t always come away successful.

Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane – 6

He barely got involved for the 30 minutes that he was on the pitch for.

Cebrail Makreckis – 7

He added flair and panache to their attack with his defense-splitting passes and energy.

Attempted to shoot late on but it was saved by Vicario.

The Ferencvaros manager infused his side with a great sense of fighting spirit and managed to pull a goal back late on.

Goalkeeper

Guglielmo Vicario – 7

It was all going his way, making key saves to keep Ferencvaros at bay, but Varga broke his resistance in the 90th minute.

Defenders

Pedro Porro – 7.5

A fireball of energy, Porro twisted and turned the Ferencvaros defense inside out with his nimble footwork and link-ups.

Cristian Romero – 7.5

Strong in the air, immaculate at passing, and solid in defending – there’s nothing more to ask from him!

Archie Gray – 6

His passing was top-notch, registering over 90% pass success, but came a cropper in his duels and couldn’t really make an impact in their backline.

The Welshman’s involvement was minimal on a strange night for him.

Midfielders

Pape Matar Sarr – 8

He broke the deadlock for Spurs in the 23rd minute with a cool finish; his second goal of the Europa League season from as many games.

The Mali international fought hard for the ball and impeded Ferencvaros’ movements.

Lucas Bergvall – 7.5

His vision to find Sarr and then lay the ball off for him, were both perfect.

Forwards

Mikey Moore – 7

A force of nature on the flanks with his precocious dribbles, and provided support to his attacking cohorts with a series of crosses.

Will Lankshear – 5.5

He was easily beaten to his duels and both his goal attempts were off-target too.

Timo Werner – 5

Once again, the German appeared isolated on the left flank, completely lacking his usual attacking flair.

Dejan Kulusevski – 6.5

The Swede added plenty of urgency and speed to Tottenham’s attacks.

Brennan Johnson – 7.5

He added a second goal late on to consolidate their win.

James Maddison – 7.5

He set up Johnson for the second and laid three key passes too.

He won’t be fully convinced with the win, but it was a win nonetheless. Two wins from two in the Europa League and five in a row now in all competitions, their best run since March 2021. Things are looking good for the manager right now.
