Gleison Bremer set for lengthy spell on the sidelines due to ACL injury

Juventus have worrying news on their hands as their marquee centre-back Gleison Bremer is expected to be sidelined longer due to an ACL injury. The Brazilian defender started in Juve’s Champions League group stage game against RB Leipzig last night but had to be withdrawn within five minutes after sustaining a serious knock. He was visibly in agony when he limped off the pitch with the help of the medical staff.

Juventus confirms ACL injury for Bremer

After undergoing medical tests on Thursday morning, Bremer was diagnosed with an Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury, which is likely to keep him out of action for quite a while. The Bianconeri also confirmed that the Brazilian is set to undergo surgery in the coming days.

Reports are stating that the former Torino defender could be ruled out of action for up to six months, which will serve as a significant blow to Juventus. In addition, he is also set to miss the upcoming games for Brazil against Chile and Peru.

Bremer, 27, has established himself as a key cog in the defence over the last two seasons, becoming an indispensable player due to his impressive performances. Having made it to the Serie A team of the year for three consecutive seasons, Bremer was also instrumental in Juve’s Coppa Italia win for the 2023-24 season.

A Colossus presence in the defence whilst also known for his aerial ability and pace, it would be difficult for the Old Lady to cope with the absence of Bremer. The responsibility will fall upon the likes of Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu and Danilo to uphold the backline.

Juve also saw winger Nico Gonzalez pick up an injury in the same against Leipzig, and he is reportedly set to miss around three weeks.

Thiago Motta’s side showed an enormous resilience to mount a brilliant comeback win against Leipzig. Although the odds were stacked against them – a couple of injuries in the opening 10 minutes followed by Michelle de Gregorio’s red card, the Old Lady edged out the German outfit 3-2, thanks to a brilliant brace from Dusan Vlahovic and an eleventh-hour winning strike from Francisco Conceicao.
