Dayot Upamecano looking to leave Bayern Munich this summer
Alongside Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano was considered to be amongst the best young defenders at RB Leipzig which eventually earned the Frenchman a move to Bayern Munich. The same went for Konate as he signed for Liverpool later but a lot was expected from Upamecano. His move to Bayern, however, hasn’t gone according to plan as while the now 25-year-old has impressed, consistency has been a big issue.
Injuries alongside various other issues have meant that Upamecano’s minutes have been at a premium and that has changed even more this season. The arrival of Eric Dier from Tottenham has seen the French defender drop down the pecking order with only 19 appearances to his name. That hasn’t been helped with several niggles although it has reportedly made the defender unhappy. So much so, that reports have indicated that Upamecano is considering leaving Germany this summer.

This isn’t the first time the 25-year-old has been linked with a move away but L’Equipe has reported that Upemecano is seriously considering his options now. The defender has two years left on his current deal and has confirmed his decision to stay with the Bavarians but the situation has changed. The report has indicated that serious interest from several Premier League clubs alongside interest from Spain and Italy has changed things.
That combined with a reduced amount of game-time this season has seen Upamecano consider his options although one does include staying in Germany. The defender is still a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the team but with the German’s future may be up in the air, so is Upamecano. Furthermore, L’Equipe has further reported that while Bayern know they cannot rule out a departure for the 25-year-old, they don’t want to sell him.
The club see the defender as a key part of their future plans alongside Matthijs de Ligt and thus don’t want to let him leave although reports have indicated that they will if their hands are forced.
