Chelsea to face Swiss club in UEFA Conference League play-offs
EPL giants Chelsea FC will be locking horns with Swiss side Servette FC at the play-offs of the coveted UEFA Conference League. The opponent team has been confirmed for the Blues, following Servette’s 1-2 loss in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round against SC Braga.
The play-offs between Chelsea and Servette will be a two-legged affair, with the first match set to be hosted by Chelsea at the iconic Stamford Bridge on August 22, while the second leg fixture will happen on Servette FC’s home ground in Geneva, Switzerland. It is after 11 years that Chelsea FC are traveling to Switzerland for competitive football.
Chelsea FC, with their mammoth 43-member squad (as of now), would not be much tensed to face the Swiss team. However, Enzo Maresca and his men should not take Servette FC lightly, especially after knowing the fact that they gave a tough fight to Portugal’s SC Braga.
Servette FC are also doing well in the ongoing Swiss Super League, having won three of the five games they played so far. Last season, the side was just a point away from a prestigious UEFA Champions League qualifying spot. The club has also been defensively strong in the Swiss top division.
For the Blues, this season is offering tough challenges in the initial days itself. The club will be facing the mighty Manchester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in the first two matches of the league, and in between the fixtures, they will battle Servette FC. The second leg will also happen on no better date, with a league match against Crystal Palace set to happen in less than three days.
