Xavi Simons to stay at Leipzig for another year

RB Leipzig today announced that Xavi Simons is back on loan at the club. Simons, 21, spent the last season at the club as well.

Leipzig said in a statement that Simons “will complete his medical on Monday at Cottaweg and then train individually for the first time since returning”. PSG, meanwhile, added they would “would like to wish” the Netherlands international “a great season” with the German side.

PSG have had the player on their books since he shifted from Barcelona’s academy back in 2019. However, he seemingly expressed his reluctance to play for the Parisiens, which has led to him going out on loan yet again.

Simons has spent both of the last two campaigns doing very well out on loan. A season in the Eredivise with PSV Eindhoven saw him get 22 goals and 12 assists. In 2023/24, he came to RB Leipzig and notched up 10 goals and 15 assists for them in 43 appearances.

According to stats provider Squawka, Xavi Simons was the only player across Europe’s top seven leagues in 2023/24 with 60+ shots, 60+ open-play chances created, 60+ take-ons completed and 60+ fouls won. This really shows the level that the Dutch international brings with him.

Many clubs like Barcelona, Manchester United and in particular Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich wanted to sign him this summer, but Simons and PSG decided that a return to Leipzig would be the best for all parties.
