Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United Player Ratings – Cunha scores an Olimpico, Bruno is sent off as United drop points again

Manchester United lose their third consecutive game as they lose 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux. The hosts scored a single goal, with Matheus Cunha scoring an Olimpico, a goal straight from the corner flag and Hwang Hee Chan scoring on the counter in added time. This result puts Manchester United at 14th, with just eight points above relegation and Wolves jumping out of the relegation zone, for the time being.

The battle of the Portugese managers was all set as Wolves came in unchanged while Manchester United made two changes. Both the teams were little erratic initially, making multiple errors. The home side settled into the game, attacking at regular intervals and keeping things tight at the back but were unable to create clear cut chances. Manchester United had more possession, but they were toothless in attack, often making efforts from outside the box. The first half ended level, with no real breakthrough from either side. the only highlight being a Dalot shot from outside the box, getting saved by Sa in an acrobatic fashion.

The second half was off to an eventful start, with Bruno Fernandes getting a second yellow for a late challenge and Wolves took full advantage of the situation, breaking out into attack and Strand Larsen scoring a header from a Semedo cross, which was ruled out for offside. Wolves amped up the pace and during the 58th minute, Matheus Cunha, the Wolves talisman scored a brilliant Olimpico, floating his corner kick over Onana and straight into the far corner.

Manchester United despite being a man down, were offered possession by Wolves but they failed to force the issue. The visitors kept the intensity high, trying to break down Wolves’ attack but failed to do so. It was a nervy end to the game, with Wolves primarily focusing on protecting the lead. But the team got a easy chance right at the stroke of full-time, with Wolves gaining possession and Hwang Hee Chan finishing off the counter attack as Cunha laid a pass down to him selflessly.

There were bookings galore in the game, with the referee dishing out six yellow cards and a sending off, which reflects the intensity of the match.
