Wigan Athletic goalkeeper turned down a move to Arsenal on deadline day

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle rejected an approach from Arsenal in the final hours of the deadline day. The Gunners were linked with a host of goalkeepers, with their notable strong interest in Espanyol starlet Joan Garcia.

But the Catalan side were reluctant to go below the Spaniard’s £25m release clause and Arsenal ended up signing Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on a season-long loan. Aaron Ramsdale left the Gunners to join Southampton on a permanent deal.

Sam Tickle preferred to stay in League One as he would be guaranteed more playing time and wasn’t in favour of becoming the third-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal.
