Why Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford don’t start for Manchester United against Chelsea?
Erik ten Hag has revealed why Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford are not starting for Manchester United against Chelsea. He stated that the midfielder was not ready while the forward was being rotated.
The Dutchman was quizzed by the reporter ahead of the match at Stamford Bridge. He spoke about Mount not being ready to start the matches just yet and added that the midfielder needed to be eased in to avoid another injury.
He said:
“Not ready for a start, we will bring him on carefully. We want to avoid another injury so we have to build-up his game minutes.”
Mount has played just 9 matches in the Premier League this season due to injury troubles. He visits Stamford Bridge for the first time since making the move to the Red Devils.
He scored his first goal for them last weekend when he found the back of the net in the 96th minute against Brentford. However, it did not prove to be the winner as the London side equalised a minute later.
As for Rashford, Ten Hag revealed that it was just a case of rotation as he wanted to ensure the team remains fresh in the business end of the season. He said:
“I decided for Marcus Rashford on the bench for rotation to keep him and the team fresh through a busy period with another big game on Sunday.”
Antony has come in for Rashford today and will be leading the attack along with Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.
Rio Ferdinand gives unfortunate update on Manchester United star
Erik ten Hag did not report any injury to Marcus Rashford while revealing the reason for benching the forward. He simply stated that it was a case of rotation, but Rio Ferdinand has revealed that it is not the main reason.
The Red Devils legend has claimed that Rashford is carrying a knock and hence misses out on starting against Chelsea. He said:
“I’m hearing behind the scenes he might have a knock.”
Meanwhile, Rashford has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer. PSG are reported to be keeping tabs on him, but Ten Hag has no plans to sell.
“We didn’t re-sign him last season for [five] years with the intention to sell him, no. He should be part of this project, so that is not a subject we talk about.”
Rashford signed a 5-year deal last year at Manchester United.
