Brighton, Chelsea or Manchester United: Which club should Keiran McKenna join?
Keiran McKenna is a hot commodity in the Premier League right now
Ipswich Town manager Keiran McKenna is currently linked with three sides in the Premier League. Chelsea and Brighton have both parted ways with their last manager, whereas Manchester United are rumored to follow suit too post the FA Cup final this weekend. All these clubs reportedly have McKenna on their radar.
The 38-year-old just guided Ipswich back to the Premier League after 22 years. Last season, he took them from League One to the Championship, so that’s back-to-back promotions under his belt. These achievements have alerted some top clubs in the top division, ahead of his managerial debut in the league.
With three clubs after him, where should McKenna ideally go? Let’s see:
Brighton & Hove Albion
Given their history of appointing young managers, it’s no surprise to see Brighton getting linked with McKenna. Also, at Seagulls, he won’t have extraordinary ambitions to fulfill. A finish within the top 10 places would be seen as a good return for a club of their stature. McKenna is perfectly capable of achieving that with Brighton given the talents he would have at his disposal.
Manchester United
After overseeing their worst ever Premier League campaign, Manchester United will be looking to rebuild their squad and pose a serious title challenge on all fronts next season. McKenna seems like the perfect man for the job, at least on paper. The Northern Irishman has now built a reputation for doing an excellent job of rebuilding at Ipswich and could get United back into the top four next season if he’s hired. Having also managed United’s academy before, he’s quite familiar with the club and their playing style too.
Chelsea
Last season in the Championship, Ipswich had the most shots per 90 minutes of any side in the division with 15.6, while their PPDA (passes per defensive action) was also among the most. McKenna’s penchant for attacking football bodes well for Chelsea, who have an array of talents in that department. Cole Palmer, Raheem Sterling, Mykahilo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson could all see their best under him, making the Blues a fearsome unit.
