Wayne Rooney picks the “better” goal between his and Alejandro Garnacho’s bicycle kicks
While Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, the post-match talk wasn’t on the game but more on the VAR controversy and Alejandro Garnacho. The Red Devils managed to scrape through thanks to a rather controversial late winner from Casemiro, which VAR spent a lot of time checking. The goal was eventually given but it had many fans booing the VAR, especially given the fact that a similar goal was ruled out earlier this season.
It meant that the post-match talk was focused on the decision and with little else to talk about, Wayne Rooney took center stage as he appeared on BBC Match of the Day to analyse the match where he finally opened up about Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick. That wasn’t all he spoke about, as the Manchester United record goalscorer also touched on the Manchester derby and his thoughts on his former side’s chance at winning.

Rooney thinks Garnacho’s bicycle kick was technically better than his
The forward’s sensational goal against Everton in November had many labelling it the goal of the season but more so, it had many comparing it to Rooney’s iconic effort in a Manchester derby. And when asked about it, the former Derby County boss praised Garnacho and believes his effort was better.
“I have always said, it is harder to score with your shin! I honestly don’t know [whether it struck my shin or my foot]. I think Garnacho’s was better. I think Garnacho’s goal was a better goal, but I think doing it against Manchester City was a better game,” Rooney said, on BBC.
With the mid-week ties over, Manchester United’s focus now turns towards their clash against Manchester City with few giving the Red Devils a chance. The Cityzens have been in fine fettle over the last few weeks, with just one loss since mid-December. Not only that, they’ve won four of their last five games while United have struggled for form. Rooney re-iterated the same and admitted that it is going to be a tough challenge for his former side.
“Yeah I scored a few but it’s a very difficult game, simple as that. City are a fantastic team, so it’s a big challenge for Man United coming up at the weekend,” Rooney added.
