Group Standings and Points Table After Round 1 of UEFA EURO 2024
The 2024 European Championships got off to a flying start when hosts Germany thrashed Scotland 5-1 in the opening fixture of the tournament. Germany’s Florian Wirtz secured the tournament’s first goal in just 10 minutes of the game.
The teams have been divided into six groups, with each consisting of four national teams. In Group B, Spain secured an emphatic 3-0 win over Croatia and Barcelona‘s Lamine Yamal set the record for the youngest to appear in the tournament at just 16 years and 338 days old. Then Euro 2020 winners Italy managed a narrow 2-1 victory over Albania.
In Group C, England somehow secured three points against Serbia, thanks to Real Madrid‘s golden boy Jude Bellingham. In Group D, Poland sustained an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Netherlands.
Then World Champions France defeated Austria 1-0 but lost Kylian Mbappe to a broken nose. Chelsea icon N’Golo Kante returned to the starting XI and the midfield general had one of his best nights on the international stage.
We also saw some exciting matchups in Group F, where Turkey took all three points against Georgia with an impressive display from Arda Guler. He became the second player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score a goal on their European Championship debut. Talking about the legend himself, Ronaldo-led Portugal managed a last-gasp victory over Czechia in injury time to clinch three points.
