UEFA Euro Playoffs: Georgia cruise past Luxembourg in opening clash

Playing in Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena, Tbilisi, the host team wasted no time to push Luxembourg from minute one. But multiple attempts by the likes of Budu Zivzivadze and Levan Shengelia tested the guest’s goalkeeper, Anthony Moris.

After continued efforts, Georgia finally took the lead through Zivzivadze as he found the back of the net at the 40th minute after sweeping the rebound ball in the Luxembourg net. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead to the host.

From the start of the second half, Georgia continued their efforts to double their lead. However, the visitors’ defensive line led by Enes Mahmutovic stood strong.

Finally, Zivzivadze added another goal to his account in the 63rd minute from Shengelia’s pass. The goal came after a few minutes from when Luxembourg’s Maxime Chanot committed a foul on Georges Mikautadze and was shown a red card.

Georgia now have to wait for the winner between Greece and Kazakhstan tomorrow, to know their opponents for the Path C final. One team from this path will secure their place in the Group F for the Euro 2024 tournament which also consists of 2016 champions Portugal, Turkey, and Czech Republic.
