Tottenham 1-2 Leicester Player Ratings: Foxes catch Spurs off guard to move clear of the relegation zone
With both sides struggling to get a real grip and run of form this season, Tottenham Hotspur hosted Leicester City in a vital game for both teams. Whilst Leicester have been languishing in the relegation zone for most of the season, Tottenham’s recent form has seen them drift lower and lower down the table.
As for the game itself, Tottenham had a set plan against Leicester and came out guns blazing with their high line and electric attacking play. At the same time, Leicester showed glimpses and threatened with breakaways that didn’t amount to anything substantial. On the other end, Heung-min Son went close with a couple of great efforts before Richarlison nodded in from a brilliant Pedro Porro cross.
The second half was a different tale entirely as two quickfire goals within the opening 5 minutes helped Leicester take the lead. Despite changes and a lot of huffing and puffing from the hosts, the Foxes were resilient in their defensive duties, holding on for all three points. Here are the Tottenham vs Leicester Player Ratings.
Tottenham Player Ratings vs Leicester City
Goalkeeper
Antonín Kinský: 6.5/10- Had a solid first half and was very good on the ball throughout the game with a superb ball over the top in one instance. Slightly unlucky with the first goal but should have done better to get a clear sightline for the second.
Defenders
Archie Gray: 6/10- Solid on the ball in his half and opposition territory as well. Did not shy away from taking a man on and offered a lot of width, allowing for Son to drift in-field more often. Struggled defensively as was shifted into midfield in the second half as a result.
Ben Davies: 7/10- Calm in possession and a vocal leader in the backline. Was key in allowing the side to move up the field much quicker and with much more fluidity. Solid in his tackles and sharp in terms of sensing danger as well.
Radu Drăguşin: 6.5/10- Mostly on top of things defensively, making sure that things were tight at the back and locking up any stray breakaways. Was hassled at times by Vardy when in possession but managed to hold his nerve.
Pedro Porro: 7.5/10- Was up to the task defensively for the most part, and had the confidence to push further forward as a result. Delivered a stunning cross for the opener which landed perfectly for Richarlison.
Midfielders
Pape Matar Sarr: 6/10- Had a dull performance, all things considered, lacking any real impact on either half of the pitch. Was completely unaware and out of position for both goals in the second half and was rightly subbed off as a result.
Rodrigo Bentancur: 6.5/10- Played much more withdrawn and closer to the defense and did well to keep things running for the most part. Struggled at times during breakaways and was easily dispossessed for the second Leicester goal.
Lucas Bergvall: 6.5/10- Excelled with the ball at his feet and was key in progressing the ball from midfield to attack for his side. Had a couple of good through balls but looked a little lost when in possession in and around the box.
Attackers
Heung-min Son: 7/10- Started the game on fire and played with real initiative from the get-go. Impeccable in possession and direct with his approach, and looked like a big threat with some of his early long-range efforts.
Dejan Kulusevski: 6.5/10- Struggled to get involved during the first half as he was pressured well and not given any room to get going. Did try to create regardless and nearly found his teammates in great positions from time to time.
Richarlison: 7.5/10- A willing runner into the space throughout. Mostly stayed high up the pitch and scored the opener with a delightful header. Got stuck in defensively and was a big presence during the opponent’s set pieces and corners.

Sergio Reguilon: N/A

Manager
Ange Postecoglou: 6.5/10- Seemed to have a decent plan but was let down by some of his personnel selection and substitutions. Needed to instill a sense of urgency in his team and recover from the setback in the early part of the second half.

Leicester City Player Ratings vs Tottenham
Goalkeeper
Jakub Stolarczyk: 7.5/10- Despite not having the best time with the ball at his feet and with some of his long-range distribution, Stolarczyk showed superb shot-stopping ability which kept his side in the game, especially in the first half.
Defenders
James Justin: 7/10- Solid and confident throughout, nullifying a lot of what Spurs were attempting off the left-hand side. Was stern in a tackle and made it a point to leave something on the opposition player each time.
Wout Faes: 7/10- Up to the task for the most part on the day and was able to avoid making any silly mistakes. Solid aerially and with the ball at his feet, with a good balance between playing a line-breaking pass and hoofing it to safety.
Jannik Vestergaard: 6.5/10- Solid again for the visitors, able to command the defense and impose himself physically against the Spurs attackers. Was key in repelling the hosts during set pieces and corners.
Victor Kristiansen: 6/10- Struggled massively at times when doubled up on but was all over his man for the majority of the game. Kept things locked up for big periods but needed more assistance as the game went on.
Midfielders
Boubakary Soumaré: 7/10- Key in turning over possession multiple times and midfield, charging forward with powerful runs from time to time as well. Showed great ability on the ball and good awareness and only needed to have a little more composure in shooting positions.
Harry Winks: 7/10- Showed great industry throughout the game despite not being too heavily involved. Kept things running at the heart of midfield, trying to rotate possession and occasionally getting stuck in with a tackle as well.
Bilal El-Khannous: 7.5/10- Instrumental in helping play progress in the opposition half. Was the main creative outlet for the side and played some great through balls at times. Picked up the ball in a great position before curling it in off the far post for his side’s second goal.
Attackers
Jordan Ayew: 6.5/10- Seemed slightly out of place on the right-hand side at times but was key in making some recoveries and keeping the ball moving in the attacking third. Delivered a few enticing crosses that could well have resulted in something fruitful as well.
Bobby Decordova-Reid: 7.5/10- Did a lot of the grunt work but was key for his side offensively in both halves, popping up in good positions in the first half. Had a superb impact in the second half with two quickfire assists to send his side into the lead.
Jamie Vardy: 7/10- A little uncharacteristically shot shy in the first half, laying the ball off rather than going on his own. Started the second half with a clinical strike and was constantly breathing down the neck of the opposition defenders.
