Crystal Palace 1-2 Brentford Player Ratings: Mbeumo & Schade helped an away win for the Bees
Eyes were all in the London derby today in Selhurst Park as Palace welcomed the Bees in a Sunday fixture. Prior to the match, it was just a single point that separated the two teams in the Premier League table and the hosts were very much hungry to take the three important points to get an edge over Brentford.
Safe to say, the hosts are now looking to get their momentum back after struggling to get a single win in their opening eight matches of the campaign. Leading up to the fixture against Brentford this Sunday, Palace were undefeated in their last six fixtures. Their last defeat came against the 2nd team on the table, the mighty Arsenal back around Christmas.
Along with the victory against Stockport County that saw Palace move on to the next round of the FA Cup, The hosts got 11 points out of 15 that they could possibly have in their last five fixtures. Irrespective of their recent momentum, Palace are still one of the low-performing clubs in the League this campaign and they will look forward to turning their fortunes in the Premier League. And the first name on their list is Brentford.
Things are not too glorious for the visitors as well. In their last League fixture, they got defeated in the stoppage time, thanks to a Darwin Nunez brace. Being in the 12th position in the Premier League along with the FA Cup crash out, Thomas Frank’s squad meant all business as they traveled to Selhurst Park.
With both Wissa and Mbeumo already into double figures in the scoring charts, leading up to the match, the Bees were confident to get an away win. Prior to the game, there was injury news cleared out. For the hosts, Adam Wharton is confirmed out for the game due to a groin injury. Along with that, Lerma is a doubt for the squad as well.
On the other hand, Dasilva and Hickey were confirmed out for the Bees. Moreover, Thiago and Nunes were a doubt as well. However, Ajer was expected to start.
With the kickoff, it was all to play for as both teams wanted a win. From the kick-off to the end of the first half, both teams took their chances but it was 0-0 at Selhurst Park after the first half for the Crystal Palace vs Brentford fixture.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 62nd minute. Mbeumo stepped up to take the spot kick and missed the kick, hitting the post and missing the rebound. However, VAR recommended a retake for the penalty due to discrepancy and Mbeumo stepped up for the 2nd attempt. This time, he went left of the goalkeeper and gave the visitors the first goal. In the 79th minute, Damsgaard made a stunning cross to Schade who made it 0-2 for the visitors.
In the 84th minute, Palace got one back as Esse the super sub guided it past the goalkeeper to make it 1-2. The game saw a 9 minute stoppage time but it ended in 1-2 and gave the visitors a much-needed away win. Here are Crystal Palace vs Brentford player ratings.
Crystal Palace Player Ratings vs Brentford
Goalkeeper
Henderson (5/10)
Was the less busy goalkeeper in the first half. Made a few saves to deny Brentford the first goal. Received a yellow card for kicking the ball after a controversial decision.
Defenders
Richards (5.5/10)
Had a solid defensive presence in the first half. Cleared many dangerous balls in the box.
Lacroix (6/10)
Was pressed a lot by the Brentford players when there were half-passes and headers but stood his ground firmly. He was the first player to get a booking in the match.
Guehi (5/10)
The defender wanted to hold a high line for his team but the Brentford press did not allow Palace to do so.
Midfielders
Munoz (5/10)
Made himself a great presence in the midfield today. Cut off many balls and counterattacks from the visitors.
Hughes (5.5/10)
Connected with the wingers and the midfield peers well. Seemed to be the only player for the Palace who made box-to-box runs in the evening.
Lerma (5/10)
Almost invisible in the first half as Palace was hesitant to bring the numbers forward. But he had more time on the ball in the 2nd half.
Mitchel (5/10)
Just like his rest of the midfield peers, he looked lively as the 2nd half began.
Eze (6/10)
His one touch has been phenomenal this season. Almost opened up the first goal with a flick for the hosts but Mateta missed the chance. Took a chance for himself in the 31st minute but the shot lacked power and direction.
Took a free kick in the 2nd half that almost went in after a deflection but it went wide after hitting the far corner.
Sarr (5.5/10)
A great midfield presence in the evening. Knew exactly when to hold the ball and when to go forward. He got subbed off in the 72nd minute.
Forwards
Mateta (5/10)
Was poised to finish the one-on-one that came his way after Eze guided the ball in his path. But the forward smashed the ball into the goalkeeper’s hands and missed a good chance.
Manager
Glasner (3/10)
Was frustrated not only because of the referee’s decisions but on his team as well.

Came in the 2nd half after Palace was losing 0-1 to the visitors.
Kamada (4/10)
Came in the late minutes of the game.

Goalkeeper
Flekken (5/10)
Been the busier goalkeeper in the first half.
Defenders
Roerslev (5/10)
Had to deal with the defensive duties and did not have much chance going forward.
Collins (6/10)
Pretty balanced with his both defensive and offensive duties. Made some quality passes in the box while going up in the field. Made a decisive challenge to deny Eze a shot in the box.
Van den Berg (5.5/10)
A strong defensive presence indeed. He has turned out to be a great defensive transfer that Brentford made recently. The former Liverpool man seemed to have the defensive line under control.
Lewis-Potter (5/10)
Unlike Roerslev, he looked going forward most of the time to give an extra man advantage for the visitors.
Midfielders
Janelt (5/10)
Probably the midfielder who had the least involvement in the midfield for the Bees in the evening.
Norgaard (5.5/10)
His quick deliveries to the wingers made the wing backs of the opposition fall back quickly and be hesitant going forward. Had a good command in the midfield today. Got subbed in the 2nd half.
Mbeumo (6.5/10)
Didn’t get as much of a ball as he would have liked in the first half. However, he almost scored from a free kick that came for the visitors in the 25th minute. Missed a penalty in the 2nd half. However, it was retaken and this time, Mbeumo converted the spot kick.
Damsgaard (5/10)
The busiest player of the evening. Box-to-box runs were there along with making the right plays with his midfield colleagues to open up spaces for the Bees. Assisted the 2nd goal for the Bees with a stunning cross.
Schade (5.5/10)
Seemed very active in the first half and every time he got the ball, he was poised to make something happen. Scored the second goal with a stunning header and even injured himself in the process.
Forwards
Wissa (6/10)
Took his chances in the earlier minutes. Almost gave the lead for the visitors but his shot from outside the box was denied by the Palace keeper.
