Erling Haaland and Stefan Ortega shine bright in Tottenham v Manchester City

Manchester City wasted no time in their latest outing agenda against Tottenham Hotspur in London. Arriving to a must-win game, The Citizens secured a convincing 2-0 victory to secure the top spot of the table. Erling Haaland was the man of the show with his brace tonight.

The first goal came through a fast-break scheme when Phil Foden sent a long pass to Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese then delivered the ball to Kevin De Bruyne who forwarded it to Haaland who tapped it into an empty net.

When the game appeared to be concluded with only one goal deficit, City was awarded a penalty. Jeremy Doku’s attempt to penetrate the area found a hard challenge from Pedro Porro. The aforementioned fell down on the ground in the process and the referee pointed to the spot.

Haaland saw no problem in executing his 27th league goal of the season. With one game to go, it is likely that the Norwegian would have another golden boot in two consecutive seasons. The closest player to match Haaland’s tally is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer with 21 goals.

After the game, City midfielder Rodri praised his teammates for the victory, mainly for Stefan Ortega who stepped in to replace the injured Ederson.

“Today was incredible, the character,” Rodri told SkySports. “We know it wasn’t the best game but we must talk about the substitutions. Stefan Ortega was simply incredible and we have the best goalkeeper in the world. We know it’s not done yet. We need the people behind us.”

City need to win in their final game of the season to clinch a new league record of four consecutive titles. For Spurs, the result will keep them to sit fifth at the table for the Europa League slot next season.
