Thomas Meunier Returns to French Football with Lille
Veteran Defender Thomas Meunier Signs Two-Year Contract with Les Dogues
Thomas Meunier is back in French football joining Lille after a brief stint with Turkish club Trabzonspor. The 32-year-old Belgian defender has signed a two-year deal with the Ligue 1 club bringing his vast experience to Bruno Génésio’s squad.
Meunier is no stranger to French football fans. He previously spent four successful years at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) where he won the Ligue 1 title three times.
His return to France is seen as a significant boost for Lille especially with their upcoming Champions League campaign. Meunier joined Trabzonspor in February after a short spell at Borussia Dortmund where he made eight appearances this season despite an injury setback at the start.
In his statement Meunier expressed his excitement about the move, saying,
Lille was the perfect choice from a sporting and family point of view. With its proximity to Belgium, it’s like being at home. My experience in the various European Cups will enable me to coach the youngest members of the dressing room and ensure that they’re 100% focused on the club’s sporting success.

Strengthening Lille’s Squad
Lille are not stopping with Meunier’s signing. He is the third new addition this transfer window following the arrivals of Ethan Mbappé and Ngal’ayel Mukau.
The club is also expected to make more moves in the transfer market, especially after selling defender Leny Yoro to Manchester United in a deal worth around £59.8 million.
With Meunier’s experience and leadership, Lille aims to build a robust squad capable of competing both domestically and in Europe.
