One of the most solid and imposing defenders in the 1990s, Desailly began his early career with French side Nantes in 1986. He represented Milan for a year in 1992/93, before spending five years with AC Milan. The Frenchman came to Stamford Bridge as a seasoned veteran looking to guide a young team and establish them as Premier League contenders.
