Spanish LaLiga Standings and Table After Gameweek 23
Gameweek 23 of La Liga proved to be a week full of important and interesting clashes which in turn have provided some interesting results to look forward to. Defending Champions, Barcelona travelled to the Mendizorrotza stadium to face Alaves while Real Madrid took on Atletico Madrid in the Madrid Derby at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marcos Llorente’s final-minute strike silences the Bernabeu while Barca grind out an important win against Alaves.
The awaited Madrid Derby saw two of La Liga’s inform and top teams go head to head against each other at the Bernabeu. A surprising inclusion of Brahim Diaz in the starting eleven proved to be a fruitful decision for the Los Blancos as the Spanish midfielder found the back of the net halfway through the first half.
It looked like Carlo Ancelotti’s men would wrap the gameweek with seven wins in a row but Diego Simeone’s men had different plans as former Real Madrid player, Marcos Lllorente placed a beautiful header in the back of Kepa’s net in the third minute of stoppage time. The equalizer proved to be the final action of the night as both teams shared the spoils on an eventful night in La Liga.
Meanwhile, defending champions, FC Barcelona travelled to the Mendizorrotza to face Alaves who are currently placed 11th in the table. The Blaugranas had already been struggling with poor form and needed to bounce back in order to get back in the title race.
Xavi’s men stepped up to the occasion as goals from Lewandowski, Gundogan and the newly arrived Vitor Roque earned the three points with a 3-1 for the Azulgranas. They are now placed third in the table with 50 points in their 23 games and are set to take on Granada at home in Gameweek 24.
