Southampton Set to Sign Yukinari Sugawara from AZ for €7m
Southampton are on the brink of signing Yukinari Sugawara from AZ Alkmaar according to the latest updates from renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Premier League club has agreed to a deal with the Dutch side with the transfer fee reaching up to €7 million including add-ons.
Romano confirmed on social media that Sugawara is set to undergo a medical and sign the contract soon.
Yukinari Sugawara (a 24-year-old Japan international) has been a key player for AZ since joining from Nagoya Grampus in 2020.
Last season he made significant contributions scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 30 Eredivisie matches.
He has also played six times in the UEFA Europa Conference League. In the 2022-23 season Sugawara scored three goals and provided eight assists across 26 starts and five substitute appearances in the league.
Sugawara’s arrival is expected to solidify Southampton’s defense as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League season.
