Social media reacts as Cristiano Ronaldo misses penalty before redeeming in shootout in Euro 2024 contest against Slovenia

Cristiano Ronaldo’s dream to score at six consecutive European Championships took a drastic turn on Monday (July 1) evening after he missed a penalty kick against Slovenia in the R16 contest for Portugal. Ronaldo, yet to score in Euro 2024 could have become the first player to score at six different continental tournaments. However, his spot kick was saved in the 103rd minute when Jan Oblak guessed the right way and saved Ronaldo’s penalty.

The save also meant that Portugal were drawn into a penalty shootout in their Euro 2024 R16 contest with Slovenia. However, all the headlines were stolen by Ronaldo’s missed penalty kick which also saw him in tears as he headed to half time in extra time. He was consoled by his teammates during the break as he entered the field with tears.
