Slovakia vs Romania Preview

Tournament: Euro 2024

Date: Wednesday, 26th June

Kick-off time: 5:00 PM GMT

Venue: Deutsche Bank Park

In another thrilling contest of UEFA Euro 2024, Romania will lock horns with Slovakia. The Romanians top the Group E despite all four teams of the group claiming three points after two matches played. This is the most balanced group in the European Championship with each team winning one and losing one this far. Ahead of the Slovakia vs Romania match, let’s have a look at the predicted line-ups and team news.

Romania kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign in a stylish fashion, beating Ukraine 3-0 in their opening match. Following that, they fell to a 0-2 defeat against an inconsistent Belgium side. Now, they will take on Slovakia in the final match of the group, and try their luck to move into the Knockouts. Under the keen watch of Edward Iordanescu, the Tricolours showed their mettle against the powerful Belgians before going down to a narrow loss. A victory against the Slovakians will definitely ensure their place in the Euro quarterfinals.

For Slovakia, they surprised the world when they clinched a famous 1-0 win against Belgium in their opening fixture of the tournament. But, their joy was short-lived when they were defeated by Ukraine in the very next match, courtesy of a string of missed chances in the game. They will look to gather their strength and go for all three points when they play against Romania midweek. The victors of the fixture will go through to the next stage and the losers’ journey will come to an end.

Coach Francesco Calzona played the same squad in Slovakia’s last two matches. Ivan Schranz is the only scorer so far for them as the forward has found the net twice in two matches against Belgium and Ukraine respectively. But, the worrying sign for Calzona is the dreadful display of other attackers in front of goals. Against Ukraine, Slovakia missed four goal scoring chances which could have won the game for them. Milan Skriniar will lead the defensive line for them once again with his experience and composure. However, it is very unlikely for Calzona to make any change into the squad against Romania.

The Romanian camp felt a sigh of relief when their experienced forward Denis Alibec returned to the squad after recovering from an Injury. He came off the bench later into the game against Belgium and displayed a satisfying performance. He might get a spot in the playing XI. Dennis Man and Nicolae Stanciu have already impressed the Euro 2024 arena with their dazzling displays, and they will be expected to continue their exploits.

Slovakia vs Romania Prediction

The Euro 2024 has already delivered more than four-five thrillers. The Slovakia vs Romania match is going to be the group finale. With the quarter-finals in sight, this is going to be a scintillating rollercoaster of a match. And that’s why it is very hard to predict the outcome of this game. The two teams are evenly balanced in the group and they have enough firepower in their squad to wage a war against each other in the game.
