Sheffield United vs Brighton Match Preview

Sheffield United is making more headlines off the pitch as boss Chris Wilder has been charged with a scathing attack, aimed at a sandwich-eating referee. This is a “complete lack of respect,” claims the boss on the incident last month. Since then, and before, Sheffield has been struggling, sitting at the rock bottom position for most of the first half of the season with just 13 points. Their latest 1-3 away win over Luton Town should give them some momentum in the crucial stretch of the year.

Brighton is enjoying the brighter side of things, as they aim for a consecutive European venture. Behind Newcastle (7th) and West Ham (8th), in ninth, separated just by a point. They trail sixth place Manchester United by 6 points. It’s a match that could work both ways where a win could take them up and a defeat would open the doors for the team below.

The Blades’ defense has crumbled the most, conceding a whopping 60 goals in 24 games, thus making them the worst in this season so far. Their attack has also not been so fancy, scoring just 22 goals.

This is a green signal for the Seagulls, but of late, they have been struggling in front of goal. Home advantage will be key for the hosts. If Sheffield is aiming for anything in this game, then a tight defense and Cameron Archer and Oli McBurnie, who have scored four goals each, have to step up.

Team News

Sheffield United

Sheffield United will seek back-to-back Premier League wins since July 2020 when Brighton and Hove Albion visit Bramall Lane on Sunday.

It’s been a tough year for Wes Foderingham between the sticks, but he’s coming off a brilliant performance recently. With new transfer Ivo Grbic still experiencing the effects of concussion, it’s up to Foderingham to keep his place until Grbic arrives.

OUT for Sheffield: Ivo Grbic (concussion), John Egan (ankle), Chris Basham (ankle), George Baldock (undisclosed), Daniel Jebbison (illness)

Doubtful: Oliver McBurnie (calf), Ben Brereton Diaz (thigh)

Brighton

For Brighton, nothing other than a win on Sunday would be seen as a poor result, given their current form. Roberto De Zerbi’s men have managed just two wins in their last nine outings.

Leading from the front is Pascal Gross with 4 goals and 8 assists. With Simon Adringa returning from the AFCON triumph, we could see him start as well.

OUT for Brighton: Joao Pedro (hamstring), Julio Enciso (knee), Solly March (knee), James Milner (thigh), Joel Veltman (knee), Jack Hinshelwood (ankle)
