Burnley vs Arsenal Match Preview

Premier League title chasers Arsenal travel to face Burnley, who are fighting to stay in the top flight. The Gunners have lost just four matches this season after 24 game weeks, while their opponents are looking to get their 4th win.

Mikel Arteta’s side come into the fixture on a 4-match winning streak and will go in as the favorites. They are 3rd in the table right now and will come into the game with a lot of confidence.

The Gunners thrashed West Ham United 6-0 away from home last week and will be keen on getting a similar result at Burnley. They have the chance to move to the top of the table for the time being this weekend if Liverpool drops points at Brentford.

However, Arteta will be aware of the upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against FC Porto next week. There might be a few tweaks in the starting XI to give players enough time to recover and stay fit.

As for Burnley, they have just the Premier League survival to play for this season as they are already out of the FA Cup. Vincent Kompany will be hoping that his players can regain some of their form from last season, where they were easing past teams in the Championship.

The Clarets are on a seven-match winless streak – including a 3-1 loss at Liverpool last week – and will find it hard to get a result against Arsenal. They are level on points with bottom-placed Sheffield United, who won at Luton Town last week and are currently seven points off safety.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Burnley does not have a fully fit squad heading into the fixture this weekend. Nathan Redmond, Luka Kolesho, and Lyle Foster are out for Vincent Komapny’s side, while Charlie Taylor and Jordan Beyer are doubtful for the game.

James Trafford is expected to remain in goal for the Clarets with Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, and Vitinho in front of him in defence. The manager will be keen on continuing with the 4-4-2 as it worked well at Liverpool last week despite the defeat.

Berge and Brownhill will be the ones in the heart of the midfield, with Ramsey and Odobert playing on the wings. Amdouni has scored 4 goals for Burnley this season and will be looking to add to it when he leads the attack against Arsenal. Chelsea loanee Datro Fofana has impressed since joining in January and should be the final man in the starting XI.

Predicted XI: Trafford; Assignon, O’Shea, Esteve, Vitinho; Ramsey, Berge, Brownhill, Odobert, Amdouni, Fofana

Arsenal will be heading into the Burnley clash with at least three players out injured. Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey are expected to rejoin the matchday squad soon, but the trip to Turf Moor comes too early for them.

Fabio Vieira is the other player who will be missing the game while Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko remain doubtful. Emile Smith Rowe sprained his ankle in training last week and is facing a late fitness test along with Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Arteta could opt to shuffle his starting XI but is more likely to go ahead with the same side that impressed at West Ham United last week. David Raya will keep his place in goal ahead of Aaron Ramsey after the clean sheet where he had little to do.

White, Saliba, and Gabriel have cemented their place in the defense and will see Kiwior join them again, with Zinchenko still doubtful. Odegaard, Declan Rice, and Havertz are likely to remain the trio in the midfield, with Bukayo Saka, Trossard, and Gabriel Martinelli leading the attack.

Predicted XI: Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Trossard, Martinelli

Prediction

Burnley does not have a good record against Arsenal, as they have won just once in their 17 meetings in the Premier League. The win came away from home at the Emirates in December 2020, while they have lost 12 times to the Gunners.

Arsenal have been brilliant while traveling to face Burnley and are unbeaten in their last 10 visits. They have won five times and drawn as many – eight of them coming in the Premier League.
