Ronaldo sparks controversy after Saudi Super Cup Snub: No fine imposed
Cristiano Ronaldo found himself at the centre of controversy after refusing to collect his runners-up medal following Al-Nassr’s crushing 4-1 defeat to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final.
The Portuguese star who had given his team an early lead with a goal was visibly frustrated as his side crumbled in the second half leading to an outburst that has sparked widespread discussion.
Ronaldo who is known for his competitive nature did not return to the pitch to collect his medal prompting speculation about whether he would face a fine.
Saudi football regulations clearly state that players who refuse to accept their prizes without a valid excuse could be fined and stripped of any awards.
But these claims have since been debunked by Saudi journalist Walid Al-Faraj, who dismissed the idea that Ronaldo would be penalized.

What excuse did Ronaldo give for not receiving his runners-up medal?
Al-Faraj addressed the situation with a touch of humor suggesting that Ronaldo could easily avoid any repercussions by citing a simple reason. “Without an acceptable excuse? He will tell you (I went to the bathroom!), this is an acceptable excuse. What will you tell him then?!” Al-Faraj remarked, brushing off the possibility of a fine as nothing more than speculation.
Ronaldo’s frustration was clear as he left the field reportedly blaming his teammates for their lack of focus and even making a lewd gesture in their direction.
The 39-year-old’s competitive spirit is well-known and his actions following the defeat reflect his high standards and unwillingness to settle for second place.
As Ronaldo and Al-Nassr prepare for the start of the new Saudi Pro League season the focus will quickly shift to their upcoming match against Al-Raed.
The team will be eager to bounce back from their disappointing Super Cup performance with Ronaldo leading the charge as they aim to start the season on a high note.
