Watch: Rodri scores in Manchester City vs West Ham to hand Pep Guardiola the title
The Spaniard is 74 games unbeaten with City
Manchester City star Rodri netted a crucial goal in their 3-1 win over West Ham as a fourth Premier League title in a row was sealed. The Spaniard converted an intelligent layoff from Bernardo Silva by sending a low-drive from outside the area through several bodies.
A brace from Phil Foden inside the opening 18 minutes of the game had given City a two-goal cushion, before Mohamed Kudus pulled one back for the Hammers minutes before half-time as the visitors threatened to fight back.
Rodri, though, put those hopes to rest with a spectacular goal for the Sky Blues seconds before the hour mark. Silva found him unmarked just outside the box, and laid the ball off to him, as the Spaniard then unleashed a low effort that found the back of the net.
The goal was reminiscent of his strike from last year’s Champions League final against Inter Milan, as Rodri has made it a habit to come up with goals in important games for Manchester City.
In 34 games league games this season, Rodri scored eight goals and assisted nine more, playing a crucial role in their title race, while he has now gone 74 appearances without seeing a loss for Manchester City.
Manchester City create history
With a fourth Premier League title in a row, Manchester City became the first English side to achieve the feat. Not even the great Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea teams of the past could pull off something like this. It’s truly unprecedented and will go unmatched for a long time.
