Brazilian legend Rivaldo comments on Casemiro’s ‘wrong decision’ to join Manchester United
Former Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro has been accused of following the money in his move to Manchester United in the summer of 2022. The Brazilian made a surprising move to Old Trafford for a reported fee of €70 million.
The 32-year-old midfielder had a spectacular first season with Manchester United but has been exposed a number of times over the past couple of years. His age and recurring injuries has caught up with the Brazilian and has struggled in his second season at Old Trafford.
The holding midfielder’s form has shown a steep decline in recent months and his latest humiliating performance against Crystal Palace has left fans doubting about the Brazilian’s future at the club.
But his Brazilian compatriot, Rivaldo believes that the 32-year-old cannot be blamed for United’s problems under Erik Ten Hag. Rivaldo claims Casemiro’s legacy has taken a hit since his move to Manchester United from Real Madrid.

In the game against Crystal Palace, Casemiro was constantly out of position and players like Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze had a field day against the Brazil international.
Rivaldo has deterred from blaming Casemiro for United’s distraught form but accused the former Real Madrid midfielder of following the money to Old Trafford.
“Casemiro is a great person, a friend of mine and someone I played with when I was at Sao Paulo,” Rivaldo said via Betfair. “He had an amazing career at Real Madrid. In my opinion, it was the wrong decision for him to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United.
“I think he was living a beautiful story at Real Madrid, but of course, the financial side of things helped his decision.
“Manchester United are in a terrible moment, with so many injuries and Casemiro is a midfield player, not a striker or defender, so people criticise him playing out of position. But in my opinion, he is not to blame at all, because Manchester United are struggling massively on their own.”
The Red Devils would be desperate to cut their losses on the Brazilian international and sanction an exit this summer. It is heavily reported that Casemiro will make the move to Saudi Arabia towards the end of the current campaign.
