Real Salt Lake’s Unbeaten Streak Ends After Arango’s Injury
RSL Falls 1-0 to LA Galaxy, Streak Snapped at 15 Games
Real Salt Lake’s impressive 15-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Saturday night. The team lost 1-0 to the LA Galaxy after star forward Chicho Arango was forced to leave the game with a head wound.
Arango clashed with the Galaxy’s Martín Cácere in the 21st minute resulting in head gashes for both players. They both had to leave the game early impacting RSL’s performance.
Galaxy Scores Late to Secure Victory
The game’s only goal came in the 74th minute. Galaxy forward Gabriel Pec scored from the top of the box after a quick one-touch pass from Dejan Joveljic. This decisive goal broke the deadlock and handed RSL their first loss in 16 Major League Soccer games.
In the 50th minute earlier both goalkeepers made crucial saves to keep the game scoreless. RSL’s Zac MacMath stopped a shot from Joseph Paintsil and Galaxy’s John McCarthy deflected a shot by Andrés Gómez.
RSL Ties with Galaxy in Standings
With this loss, RSL (10-3-7) is now tied with the Galaxy (10-3-7) for second place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference just behind LAFC.
Real Salt Lake will look to bounce back when they return to action on July 3 against the Houston Dynamo at America First Field. They are also set to host Atlanta United on July 6.
