Real Madrid vs Girona Preview and Prediction

Real Madrid vs Girona Match Preview

  • Tournament – La Liga
  • Date – Saturday, February 10, 2024
  • Kick-off Time – 05:30 pm GMT
  • Venue – Santiago Bernabeu

Matchweek 24 of La Liga 2023-24 will see a potential title-deciding face-off as Real Madrid host Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos have been phenomenal this season and lost just two games across competitions. They have already won the Supercopa de Espana and will face RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

Real Madrid were eliminated from the Copa del Rey but sit atop the La Liga table despite playing out a 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in their last game.

Los Blancos have found a new rival in the title race this season in the form of Girona, who are just two points behind them in the table. They have also lost just two games across competitions and just like the Merengues, one defeat came in La Liga and the other in the Copa del Rey.

Girona’s only league defeat this season came against Real Madrid, as they lost 3-0 back in September. The upcoming clash could well decide the fate of the Spanish top flight this season.

Real Madrid are without Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao, and David Alaba due to their respective ACL injuries. Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez are doubts as well for the clash, which means Los Blancos could have no primary centre-back against Girona.

Vinicius Jr. also missed out on the last game due to a neck injury and is a doubt for the weekend.

Meanwhile, Girona are without Artem Dobvyk, David Lopez, Joel Roca, Juan Carlos, and Toni Villa due to their respective injuries. Meanwhile, Daley Blind and Yangel Herrera are suspended.

Real Madrid have beaten Girona five times in their nine previous meetings across competitions. Girona have won thrice while one encounter between the two sides has ended in a draw.

Last five results:

  • Girona 0-3 Real Madrid – La Liga – September 30, 2023
  • Girona 4-2 Real Madrid – La Liga – April 25, 2023
  • Real Madrid 1-1 Girona – La Liga – October 30, 2022
  • Real Madrid 1-2 Girona – La Liga – February 17, 2019
  • Girona 1-3 Real Madrid – Copa del Rey Quarter-final – February 1, 2019

Prediction

Both sides have been excellent this season and are missing some key players. Real Madrid have the best defensive record in La Liga this campaign, having conceded just 15 goals in 23 goals while Girona have the best scoring record with 52 goals.

However, Los Blancos could be without any recognised center-back while Girona are without their main striker.

It should be a high-scoring game but Real Madrid’s experience and home advantage should see them earn three crucial points.

Predicted Score: Real Madrid 4-2 Girona
